1920’s hotel recently renovated sits on the Arkansas river. Nice and quiet. Attached restaurant/bar (AVI Chophouse) gives 20-30% discount depending upon item. This is a middle of the road chop house with decent food. Complimentary managers evening reception in lobby has better than typically finger food.
Lawrence-Dumont stadium – minor league baseball walking distance across bridge. Also a nice ice skating rink next to the stadium with multiple rinks. Wichita Thunder hockey team plays at Instrust Arena about 15 min walk (0.8 mi).
Old Town – area of restaurants, shops, and movie theatre is East of hotel about a mile. Warren theatre in Old Town is nice and has multiple theatres, a bar, one theatre serves food, and one is over 21 only. I would walk East on Douglas with your Google map open and check out the stores and restaurants down to Mosley or Washington street.
Comedy Club also along Douglas Ave. short walk from hotel.
Delano District is an area with restaurants and some shops less than 1/2 mile West of hotel on West side of river on Douglas street. Good BBQ and other casual fare.
Quality theatre, plays, broadway musicals, orchestras at Century II convention hall across the street from hotel. Top concerts and events at Intrust Bank Arena 0.8 miles from hotel.
On longer layovers there is a excellent air & space museaum in Hutchinson, Ks about 40 minute drive NW of town. This is the place that refurbished Gus Grissom’s recovered capsule. Not huge but very good quality – has a SR71 hanging in the atrium.
Numerous other small museums in Wichita including Wichita Air museum at McConnel AFB in the original 1930’s Wichita Airport Terminal.
