Side Street Inn
1225 Hopaka St. Honolulu, HI 96815
A hidden gem of a restaurant 10 minutes from the hotel with reasonable prices. Try the Korean style short ribs known as ‘Kal Bal’. It is vaguely reminiscent of death by meat in Campinas. Everything looked great.

Jazz Minds
1661 Kapiolani Blvd. Honolulu, HI 96814
Nice club/bar
with live jazz every night. The Monday night entertainment is particularly good. From the Ala Moana hotel after exiting the front turn left then left again at the next intersection. Walk about a half
block and you will be at the rear of several bars and restaurants.
Walk through the parking lot. Or go to the traffic light (Kapiolani) turn left and look for the club on your left next to the bookstore.
Rainbow Drive-In
3308 Kanaina Ave. Honolulu, HI 96815
A locals’ hangout that is great for breakfast or lunch. Fantastic food, but a DIVE. You sit in plastic chairs outside if you can find a seat. Go with the loco moco if you dare. It is rice, meat of some kind, gravy and two eggs on top with macaroni salad on the side. 10 minute walk from the hotel.
