Hotel gives you a coupon for one free drink at the lobby bar upon checkin. Beer, punch, soft drinks are the options-a limited list, but a good starter. The bar offers a wide variety of beverages and a pretty good menu of food. Be on the lookout for “CK”, the hotel general manager that enjoys being in the bar visiting with hotel guests. He really enjoys visiting with FedEx pilots and has been known to buy numerous drinks (including top shelf scotch) until you’re ready to call it a night. Just fair warning when you encounter CK in the bar you’ll be in for a treat to lots of corny jokes and adult beverages. CK no longer works at the Howard Hotel; the GM has retired.
Across the parking lot from the hotel (Howard Plaza Hotel) is where you’ll find Lucky BBQ. It’s a 3 min walk around the parking lot to good food and beer. The owner’s name is Sabrina and she’s almost always there. She’s going to try a new idea to drum up some FedEx business so bring your FedEx ID for a free draught beer (it’s a local beer) The place gets full on weekend nights so go early if able. I think they open at 1400. If it’s full, there’s a long table on the sidewalk that may be open. Sabrina’s best friend is a hospitable lady from New York named Vicky. She’s a really fun person that hangs out there almost everyday. Her English is perfect and she’ll most likely join your table and give you all sorts of local information.
In middle of 17 day trip and needed some stuff washed. Hotel prices were ridiculous. This place will do entire bag of laundry (weighed on scale!) for about same price, 210 Taiwan dollars, that Howard charges for one shirt. Same day service, in by 9 AM, when they open, and out by 4 PM. Go out front of hotel, right on Renai, right on Fuxing, go one block, then left on Xinji. Laundry is about 50 yards down street on right. They speak little English, so I used translator on my phone and asked simple questions with no problem.
